Canadian-born singer Aubrey “Drake” Graham, also known as Drizzy, is one of the richest rappers in the world, with a net worth of $150 million as of 2019. He is currently signed to Lil Wayne’s company and Young Money Entertainment. Not only a singer, Drake has also been an entrepreneur by founding the OVO Sound record label with the record producer 40.
His first contract began at 15 when a friend’s dad, who was an acting agent, put him Degrassi with the role of Jimmy Brooks. Brooks was a character who was a basketball star but became disabled after being shot. This all sounds fabulous to have an acting career begin at such a young age, but when Drake has been asked about his early acting years, he said that his mother was sick, his family was poor, and that the only money actively flowing was the money he got from acting on the show. He continued on the show until his character graduated from high school on the show. After that, his character made sporadic appearances on the show.
Drake reports his early-day inspiration to be Jay Z and Clipse, which would be the inspiration for his first release. Although he first started his career by working as actor in Degrassi: The Next Generation in the 2000s, once he released his mixtape Room for Improvement, he left the tv show Degrassi for good. No more sporadic appearances. Comeback Season and So Far Gone were the next two albums he released before signing onto Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment in 2009.
His debut studio album Thank Me Later was released in 2010 and was number 1 on the US Billboard 200 and became a platinum record. He was rising fast. Take Care and Nothing Was the Same were also immensely successful, with the first of those two earring him a Grammy award for Best Rap Album. Then, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and What a Time to Be Alive earned him platinum certification in the US again. Views broke several chart records and remained near the top of Billboard 200 for 13 weeks! This was a first-time occurrence in 10 years by a male solo artist. The single “One Dance” topped charts in several countries and became his number-one single.
Views is Drake’s best-selling album to date. “Hotline Bling” received Grammy Awards for Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Rap Song. More Life became the 7th consecutive number one album in the Billboard 200. “God’s Plan” in Scorpion is also Grammy-award-winning. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ranks him as the world’s highest-certified digital singles artist.
In total, he has won four Grammy awards, six American Music Awards, twenty-seven Billboard Music Awards, and three Juno Awards. That is pretty impressive for an artist’s career!
Throughout his career, Drake received a $120,000 OVO Owl Chain with VVS diamonds (very, very straight, term referring to the clarity of a diamond). He definitely would be making iced out appearances after that gift. The owl jewelry includes 40k of blue, canary, and white diamonds.
